There are some interesting facts about our ward on the Croydon Observatory; however we have a population of 16,286 – key landmarks include West Thornton Primary Academy, Croydon University Hospital, Croydon Cemetery, Thornton Heath Clocktower and green space can be found at Thornton Heath pond, Mayfield Road Playground, Beulah Spa’

 Did you know?
  • Thornton Heath Pond is possibly the area’s oldest landmark.
  • Beulah Spa is now just an ordinary park but once was London’s most fashionable spa.
  • The Clocktower, completed in 1900, still stands at the junction of Thornton Heath High Street and Parchmore Road, on a site previously called Walker’s Green.
  • In 1961 a plane carrying a school trip from Lanfranc School on Mitcham Road crashed into a mountain near Stavanger in Norway. The Lanfranc Memorial remembers those who lost their lives in the crash.
