Cleaner Streets

Launched our ‘Don’t Mess with Croydon’ campaign to deliver cleaner streets and, unlike the previous Tory Council, prosecute those caught fly tipping.

We promised in our manifesto that we would work hard to make every street clean and safe after years of Tory neglect. We realise there is some way to go but we
are cracking down hard on fly-tippers and have also moved to a new ‘village system’ of collecting your rubbish. This means that the bin collectors and street cleaners get to know the area they work in well, and can build relationships with residents.

After some initial teething problems we are pleased to report that missed collections are now 20% lower than under the system the Tories used. We are now offering residents who want it, the chance to have their green waste collected in a wheelie bin and we are currently negotiating through the South London Waste Partnership to extend the service throughout the year, not just in the summer months. Unfortunately, given the 56% cuts to Croydon Council made by the Tory
Government, we have had to introduce a small charge of just over £1 a week for this service.

We thank local residents and businesses who have signed up to be street champions for their local area. They have been actively organising litter clean-ups, recruiting volunteers and reporting fly-tipped rubbish to the Council.
